Rajiv Kapoor (Chimpu) Dies at the Age of 58 due to Heart Attack

Indian actor Rajiv Kapoor (Chimpu), the youngest son of veteran Raj Kapoor, has passed away on Tuesday (February 9, 2021) in Mumbai. He died at the age of 58 following a heart attack.

According to the source, Rajiv Kapoor had a massive heart attack today morning at his residence in Chembur. He was immediately taken to Inlaks General Hospital. Before the doctors could start to treat him, he expired.

Rajiv Kapoor’s sister-in-law and actress Neetu Kapoor went to her Instagram account to confirm the news. She shared a picture of Rajiv Kapoor and simply wrote, “RIP”.

Rajiv Kapoor, who was also a film director and producer, was youngest brother of actors Randhir Kapoor and Rishi Kapoor. The Kapoor Family has lost another member, after the death of Rishi Kapoor who died last year on April 20.

His family, friends and other Bollywood celebrities mourned the death of Rajiv Kapoor and expressed their condolences to the Kapoor Family.

Naved Jafri wrote on a post on Twitter, “He was a pure heart and a very nice human being. May his soul rest in peace, deepest condolences to the family.”

Neil Nitin Mukesh tweeted, “Devastated!! Another big loss to the family one of my most favourite people in the world. Love him so so dearly. Don’t remember a Happy Moment without him. Chimpu uncle we will miss you.”

Sanjay Dutt tweeted, “Absolutely heartbroken to hear about the demise of Rajiv Kapoor. A soul gone too soon. My thoughts and prayers are with the Kapoor family in this difficult time. Om Shanti.”

Rajiv Kapoor, also addressed as Chimpu, had made his debut as an actor in Hindi cinema with Ek Jaan Hain Hum in 1983. He was best known for his lead role in Ram Teri Ganga Maili (1985). Several of his other memorable movies are Aasmaan (1984), Lover Boy (1985), Zabardast (1985) and Hum To Chale Pardes (1988).

He appeared in Zimmedaar (1990) for the last time as an actor and then he turned into producer and director. He made his debut as a producer with the film Henna (1991), featuring Rishi Kapoor and Zeba Bakhtiar. He also supported other home productions such as Prem Granth (1996) and Aa Ab Laut Chalen (1999). After this, he took a long break from Bollywood.

Rajiv Kapoor was to come back to the movies after 28 years with Ashutosh Gowariker and Bhushan Kumar’s joint production – Toolsidas Junior, co-starring Sanjay Dutt. The movie, which is based on sports drama, was announced in December last year.
