Sridevi (born as Shree Amma Yanger Ayyapan) was an Indian actress who worked in many of Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu language movies. She was one of the major pillars of Indian cinema.
Sridevi was born on August 13, 1963, in a Telugu family in Meenampatti, Madras State (now Tamil Nadu). Her father, Ayyapan, was a lawyer and her mother, Rajeswari, was a Telugu actress. She has a sister and two step-brothers.
She started working as an artist when she was only four years old and made her debut as child artist in the Tamil movie ‘Kandhan Karunai’ directed by A. P. Nagarajan in 1967 and also played the role of young Muruga in film ‘Thunaivan’ directed by M.A. Thirumugham in 1969. There on, she faced the camera multiple times for various Kannada, Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu movies.
After several years of working as a child actor, Sridevi made her debut as an adult and a leading actress when she was 13 years old in K. Balachander’s Moondru Mudichu in 1976, where she played against Rajnikanth and Kamal Haasan. After Moondru Mudhchu, Sridevi had a number of successes with the two Tamil superstars among other stars and became the most successful actress in Tamil cinema during the period 1979-1983.
At the same time, Sridevi debuted into Hindi cinema with Solva Sawan (1979), which was flop at the box office. However, after four years, Sridevi was re-introduced in her second movie “Himmatwala“, which was very successful. During the 1980s, she starred many films in Bollywood and established her position as a top actress of the time.

On June 2, 1996, Sridevi was married to film producer Boney Kapoor. She was the second wife of Boney Kapoor, after Mona Shourie Kapoor. Sridevi and Boney Kapoor have two daughters named Jhanvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor.
The icon actress passed way on February 24, 2018 in Dubai. The cause of death was reported as accidental drowning in the bath tub in her hotel room as per forensic report released by Dubai Police.
